Year 2 Hair, Makeup, and Prosthetics for Production students from University Centre Weston (UCW) had an incredible opportunity to contribute to the 20th anniversary of the Slapstick Festival in Bristol.
Working alongside the renowned Aardman Animations and the Slapstick Festival team, our talented students showcased their creative skills by designing and applying stunning grayscale looks. These vintage-inspired makeup transformations paid homage to the early days of silent cinema, bringing a classic aesthetic to life.
As part of the experience, the students assisted with a photoshoot on location at two historic ships—The Matthew and The Balmoral—where they ensured performers and presenters looked the part for the festival’s publicity materials. Their strong attention to detail helped capture the spirit of silent film.
This hands-on opportunity allowed our students to gain industry experience while working on a local cultural event, reinforcing UCW’s commitment to providing real-world learning experiences.
