Last week our Business Management and Sustainability students got the chance to listen to a very exciting lecture delivered by guest speaker, Shóna Brown.
Shóna is a sustainability professional, currently working as the Sustainability Engagement Manager at the world-renowned PepsiCo. PepsiCo is a multinational food, snack and beverage corporation with household brands like Pepsi, Quaker Oats, Tropicana and Starbucks falling under the company’s portfolio.
With experience working in such an exciting role, hearing from Shóna was incredibly inspiring for our current Business Management and Sustainability students, who aspire to one day work in a similar field. She gave them an in-depth overview of her education and career, explaining the journey she has taken and the experience she has gained along the way.
Students were then given real-life project examples and were encouraged to discuss challenges and devise solutions. This was an excellent exercise as it gave our students the chance to learn how a live project is managed in the context of real industry practice!
Shóna also gave some incredible insight into what it’s really like working within the sustainability industry, explaining how she navigates its ever-changing and evolving landscape.
Course Co-ordinator, Charmaine, told us “It was a fantastic session and we’re really grateful to Shóna for taking the time to inspire the students, raise their aspirations and support them to fully understand the variety of careers they can go into when studying Sustainability”.
Our students gained so much from Shóna’s talk. Some commented on the usefulness of hearing about the challenges she faced during her career and how this has made her more resilient.
Business Management and Sustainability student, Chris, said “It was great having Shóna come and speak with us. She gave us a real insight into the benefits and challenges of working in a sustainability role.”
This is just one of the many amazing opportunities available to our Business Management and Sustainability students. Our tutors are regularly inviting industry into the classroom to give our students the most up-to-date knowledge, that will prepare them for their future careers in business!
