Harvey delivering the guest lecture

Quantity Surveying Guest Lecture

28/01/2025

Level 4 Quantity Surveying learners in their second year had an informative guest lecture with Harvey from Berry Redmond Gordon and Penney Solicitors. This gave them vital knowledge about property legislation. The lecture began with a talk on conveyancing. This then moved on to discussing land ownership and land sale. The talk was interactive, with students able to ask any questions that they had.

Next the talk moved on to the legal requirements surrounding conveyancing and the potential issues that this can face for clients selling or buying land. The issue of taxes in land purchase and selling was also discussed. After this, the students were given a series of case studies so that they could apply what they had learned to the real world. Quantity surveyors are in high demand in the construction industry so real scenarios are important! Quantity surveying is a highly paid profession, with many opportunities available.

This guest speaker forms part of the Engineering and Construction Careers Excellence Hub. University Centre Weston has ten sector-specific Career Excellence Hubs, which evidence our dedication to supporting both employers and learners in achieving their future goals.
