Early Years and Early Childhood Studies degree students and graduates from University Centre Weston (UCW) have been praised for contributing to the country’s response to the Covid-19 crisis by caring for the children of other key workers.
Many of the students have continued to work in nurseries, preschools and schools and as childminders throughout lockdown, looking after and educating the young children of NHS staff, emergency services personnel and other workers vital to the national effort to overcome the pandemic.
The settings include Lollipops Childminding, Busy Bees Nursery and Honeytree Nursery in Weston, Folly Farm Nursery in Clevedon, Station House Nursery in Portishead and Midford Road Nursery and Preschool in Bath.
As well as working, the students have also been keeping up with their studies by adopting and utilising interactive online platforms.
UCW Early Years Education lecturer Lauren Pring said: “Myself and all of the Early Years lecturing team are so, so proud of our students and graduates for playing such a crucial part in helping the local area get through these challenging times.
“One of the main themes of our degrees is that we enhance our students’ knowledge and skills and then they apply them in their workplaces.
“So it’s great to know that when these key workers are going to work on the frontline every morning, they are leaving their children with some of the very best early years practitioners in the region.”
Early Years at UCW is rated 100% for student satisfaction in the 2019 National Student Survey.
