Oscar embodies excellence both on and off the football pitch, making him a standout choice for Weston College’s Sports Academy Student of the Year. As a pivotal member of the football academy, Oscar has not only represented but also captained the under-18s and 19s teams with flair and dedication. His prowess on the field recently earned him a call-up to the Weston AFC 1st team, where he demonstrated his talent by scoring in a Somerset Cup fixture.
Now that he has completed his Level 3 Sport & Exercise Science course, Oscar is now on University Centre Weston’s Level 4 Community Coaching course, a Higher Technical Qualification or HTQ which are designed with employers in mind to boost skills. The HTQ allows Oscar to find the perfect balance between academic pursuit and sporting passion, with a schedule that allows time for studying and playing. Balancing his work with football demonstrates his determination to succeed in all aspects of his life.
Reflecting on his time at Weston College, Oscar emphasises the invaluable lessons in independence and self-discipline that have prepared him for the challenges of the future. “The transferable knowledge and skills I’ve gained work so well for developing life skills, getting jobs, and working up through the ranks.” These skills will be built on at UCW to give Oscar the best preparation for the future ahead, as he enters the world of work.
