We’re celebrating Criminology and Public Services student Louise! We caught up with her to see how her time at UCW is going.
The highlight of Louise’s experience at UCW has been attending inspiring lectures and developing her academic skills. Louise’s journey comes with a unique twist. She is pursuing her degree alongside her daughter! She even jokingly refers to her as a twin sister!
A particularly memorable moment for Louise was when guest speaker Tony Jay, an ex-detective who worked on the Fred and Rose West case, captivated the class with his insights from a significant investigation, which inspired Louise to explore future career opportunities. This guest speaker forms part of the Uniformed Services and Sport Careers Excellence Hub. University Centre Weston’s Career Excellence Hubs are designed to be the launching pad for our learners’ careers. In a world where connections and relevant skills matter more than ever, these hubs offer a holistic approach that prepares learners to thrive in their chosen industries. With the support of these hubs, our learners are well-equipped to make a significant impact in their professional journeys.
Louise discovered that she has dyslexia, but the support from one-on-one teams and lecturers has been invaluable to her: “UCW provides the resources I need to confidently face challenges, along with weekly guidance and assistance from the library.”
Louise showed support for the staff at UCW saying: “I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to my lecturers Jason, Chris, Anna, and Caroline for their dedication, as well as to Wendy, my one-on-one support, for her patience in enhancing my understanding and writing skills. I truly appreciate the approachable HEART team that is always there to support me throughout this journey.”
