07/08/2024

At the heart of UCW is our fantastic lecturers. Experts in their industries, their dedication to students is vital to everyone’s success!

UCW lecturers emphasise dedication to student success and the ability to inspire through dynamic and engaging instruction. Their diverse professional backgrounds not only enrich the learning environment but also help foster a culture of intellectual curiosity and creativity.

Among our lecturers, Andreas stands out as a shining example of the passion and dedication that we value. Recently honoured as one of the Outstanding Lecturers of the Year our UCW Awards, Andreas exemplifies the qualities that make our lecturers truly exceptional. We had the opportunity to sit down with Andreas to discuss his teaching philosophy at UCW.

“This recognition means a great deal to me, as it reflects the trust and beliefs our apprentices have placed in me throughout their start of their educational journey and is a privilege me being a part of it.

“My philosophy has always focused on building a positive rapport with every student. I am an advocate that when learners trust their lecturer, they become more open to challenges and are willing to push their boundaries. This trust-based approach has allowed me to connect with students on a personal level, understanding their individual needs and aspirations, whilst empowering other staff.

“I’m particularly proud of the feedback I’ve received. All this of course highlights the supportive and engaging learning environment I strive to create.

“My dedication to high achievers is the foundation to my teaching style, providing formative feedback in any form or shape to ensure the consistent development prior a final/summative assessment. I believe in challenging and coaching students to excel further and raise their appetite with additional resources and opportunities to expand their knowledge, skills and behaviour is everything, especially for apprentices preparing them for a workplace. We must always ensure that all students, regardless of their current academic standing, feel supported and motivated to improve.

“This award is also a testament to the collaborative spirit of education in Engineering, with my colleagues and across UCW. It is not just about my efforts, but also about the incredible students I have the privilege to teach. Their enthusiasm, curiosity and determination, inspire and challenge me every single day to improve myself along their personal development.

“This award has inspired me to reinforce my continual improvement in my teaching methods and looking forward to growing even more.”
