Great Big Green Week is the UK’s biggest ever celebration of Community Action to tackle Climate Change and protect Nature.
We’re excited to be taking part in a range of events and activities developed by Weston College for all members of our Weston College Group Community over the next 2 weeks. As well as raising awareness and promoting our Sustainability and Social Action Agenda, Great Big Green Week also aims to ensure we are ALL contributing to aiding the environmental challenges that lie ahead.
Planned activities:
Monday 26th September
The week begins with the release of a bespoke Q and A session with Chris Hines MBE. He was a founding member of Surfers Against Sewage and a former Sustainability Director of the Eden Project, who spoke at the Sustainability and Social Action Business Breakfast in Weston-super-Mare earlier in the year.
Tuesday 27th September
Weston College will be hosting an Engineering and Construction Sustainability Learner Conference, opened by Sir Paul Phillips, with guest speakers and a panel Q and A session from industry. Learners attending will then complete a ‘real-world’ challenge with judges from our key employers.
Wednesday 28th September
We will be helping with a Beach Clean in partnership with Weston Pier. If you would like to be involved in Beach Clean then please complete this form.
Thursday 29th September (Weston College 29th Sept, UCW w/c 3rd October)
We will be taking up the challenge to ‘Green Your Campus’, as we seek to achieve Net Zero.
People taking part will have the opportunity to win awards in the following categories:
- Zero Waste
- Sustainability Awareness
- Carbon Footprint
- Digital Innovation
- Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
- Best Campus
- Outstanding Commitment to Sustainability
Friday 30th September
On the final day, there is a Smart Living Conference being held at the Winter Gardens from 3pm until 7.30pm. We have a limited number of tickets available. If you would like to attend, please complete this form.
