University Centre Weston (UCW) will take over the centre of Weston again on Saturday with its annual Graduation celebrations.
Around 500 students will mark achieving their degrees with special ceremonies at St. John the Baptist church.
The ceremonies will include inspiring addresses by Weston College Group Principal and Chief Executive Dr Paul Phillips CBE and supermodel, performer and curator Eunice Olumide MBE.
Graduation Day will also involve a procession of students on Knightstone Road led by The Street Dixie Band and a private drinks reception for the students and their 1,500 guests in the stately ballroom of the Winter Gardens Pavilion.
Members of the public are also invited to enjoy the day, with the ceremonies and performances by Weston Brass Band set to be broadcast on a big screen in the Italian Gardens and also streamed live across the world on UCW’s Facebook page.
This year will see the first students graduating from UCW’s degree-level courses in Integrated Mental Health and Social Care, Engineering, Hair, Make-up and Prosthetics for Production and Construction and the Built Environment.
Dr Phillips CBE said: “It is particularly poignant that we have our first mental health and social care and construction engineering graduates in the same year that we have opened our new Health and Active Living Skills Centre and Construction Training Centre in Weston.
“We are investing millions of pounds in learning opportunities and state-of-the-art facilities so that enterprises in our region can rely on the highly skilled and employable graduates we produce at Weston College and University Centre Weston.
“UCW Graduation Day is all about celebrating these students’ successes and involving our local community in a wonderful event.”
