We caught up with Folu, who is staying in our Parkside House accommodation and asked him some questions about his experience.
Would you recommend your accommodation to new students?
Yes, I would recommend Parkside House to new students. It is in a convenient location near the Winter Gardens, making daily commutes easy. The close proximity of essential facilities adds to the overall positive experience.
What has been your favourite thing about living in Parkside House?
In my first year, I enjoyed cooking for friends and socialising with my flatmates. In my second year, I have continued to explore new cooking skills and engage in different activities. I also enjoy taking walks by the beach, which provides a refreshing break from my studies.
Which facilities do you find most useful in your accommodation?
The Study Hub has been a valuable facility, offering a relaxed environment where me and the other students can socialise and unwind. The improvements made over the years have encouraged more students to use the space, fostering a sense of community.
How do you find cooking in your accommodation?
Initially, cooking was not my strength, but I have made significant progress. I have learned to cook for others and incorporate cooking into my daily routine, which is an essential life skill.
What tips would you recommend for students going into accommodation?
1. Make Friends Early – Building friendships will help you navigate university life more easily.
2. Get Involved in Activities – Joining different societies and events will boost your confidence and help you develop essential skills.
3. Step Out of Your Comfort Zone – Initially, I found it challenging, but as time passed, I became more comfortable socialising and engaging in new experiences.
Overall, my time at UCW has been a transformative experience, filled with personal growth, learning, and great memories. The supportive environment, engaging activities, and dedicated staff have all played a crucial role in shaping my university journey.
