During February our second-year Film students ventured down to Perranporth, Cornwall to create their own film; Grievance, which they had previously written, pitched and planned.
‘Grievance’ is centred around a female protagonist who goes missing. It later transpires that she was fleeing her stepfather who she believes is after her. Her friend tries to find her, which leads them to Perranporth.
During the filming process students collaborated across the board, with makeup looks produced by Hair, Make-up and Prosthetics for Production students and actors from Level 3 Performing Arts. Some cross-university collaboration even happened with actors featuring from the Cornwall-based Falmouth University.
One of the students told us: “I learnt a lot during my time on set. I started to understand how blocking works, and how planning is key to a good production! It also was amazing to see my film being made, a dream that I have had since I was very young was coming to life. It really boosted my confidence because now I know I can actually go out and make a good film, hire actors and coordinate a team efficiently, and it will definitely make a difference to my next films.”
