We’re celebrating success on our Environmental Health Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship! Sara from Cornwall Council spoke about how the degree apprenticeship had benefitted her employees and her whole department.
She highlighted apprentice Tracey who had gained confidence along her course. Tracey prepared a presentation about her career path which she presented outstandingly to over thirty people, including the Chief Executive of Cornwall Council! What stood out to Sara was the growth she had seen in Tracey across her four years on the course. “To see her develop into a confident, upskilled, knowledgeable officer, providing support and mentorship to my two new students embarking on year one is just fantastic!” Tracey has been able to achieve all this with no previous higher education experience, which has been brilliant.
Sara also praised work of Tracey’s assessor, Nathaniel. “One of the most significant factors is having Nathaniel involved as the liaison, support, the glue that brings everything together between student, employer and university.” The apprenticeship format has been new for Sara, but she describes it as “an absolute game-changer” highlighting that she can raise any questions or recognise the good work of the employees. She knows that the students value the support the receive as well.
The apprenticeship has been very successful for Sara. “It is because of such positive experiences, personal and professional rewards, team succession planning that have we have committed to another cohort with another 2 students. Keep up the good work!”
