We’re highlighting Criminology and Public Services student Giuseppe and his time at UCW so far! From spending time with peers to having fun while learning, he has enjoyed his first two years.
When Giuseppe first applied for UCW he struggled with the processes for the student loan. The finance team patiently supported him with completing this by helping at each individual stage. On top of this Giuseppe adds that the HEART Team will always stop to talk to see how you’re doing. When it comes to the library staff, Giuseppe says they are also amazing! You can always talk to them if you need some help with Referencing, IT or Tutorials. Without this support, he would have felt lost.
UCW has been setting Giuseppe up for his career through our Career Excellence Hubs. Giuseppe mentioned: “We just had a guest speaker, working in the prison service with Serco, who completely changed what I want to do in the future. The speaker was great, she told us how she really feels in the industry, and you need to understand how people think when they’re really in a job.”
The speaker was great for Giuseppe, Gemma went through reasons why you should join, the community and the work life balance. This reinforced in Giuseppe that he wanted to work in a prison as he now understands how the system actually works.
This guest speaker forms part of the Uniformed Services and Sport Careers Excellence Hub. At University Centre Weston our approach goes beyond the traditional classroom setting. Through industry speakers, workshops, employer projects, and more, we equip our learners with the real-world experiences and insights that set them apart in the competitive job market. It’s not just about getting a job; it’s about standing out from the crowd when they embark on their job searches.
The staff at UCW have been brilliant for Giuseppe. He had positive words for all of his teachers; including Chris who personal experiences to help the class understand the forces, Jason who “always gives 110% on everything he does”, Anna who did a fantastic job of introducing him to university, and Caroline who “makes lessons interesting with a balance of theories and practice.”
