Over half-term UCW again hosted the award-winning Children’s University! This is a programme that aims to take education outside of the normal school day allowing for new and exciting hands-on skills to be learned.
The first session this half-term was a photography workshop, which allowed the children to discover the world of visual arts. The group explored Photoshop, using various editing tools to create backgrounds which were then projected onto them while they took turns photographing each other. The children experimented with different backgrounds and poses for their photos, and also got to use a projector with coloured shapes cut out by them for additional photos. This was key for teaching about composition, lighting, and camera techniques.
A second workshop was held on Halloween with the children following a step-by-step guide from UCW Hair, Makeup and Prosthetics for Production students for creating face paintings! These included sugar skulls and pumpkin faces. This gave the children experience using new brush techniques and sponges to paint. After mastering the basics, they honed their skills by painting on their hands and arms, creating various Halloween-inspired looks, and loving every second of it!
Over the past year, UCW has successfully completed 13 engaging workshops designed to inspire creativity and enhance learning. Each session was carefully crafted to provide children with a chance to explore new skills and interests in a fun, interactive environment.
