Apprentice Environmental Health Practitioner
The Royal Borough of Greenwich is pleased to be able to offer an apprenticeship to train as an Environmental Health Practitioner on a 4 year fixed term contract.
We are keen to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated student who would like to enrol on a BSc (Hons) Environmental Health Practitioner degree level apprenticeship, which is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health. This course is offered in partnership between the University of the West of England (UWE) and University Centre Weston (UCW). The successful applicant will be enrolled at Weston College who offer remote placements with some college based activities.
The apprenticeship will provide the successful applicant with a work-based experience period of 4 Years with the authority beginning in the summer of 2023. The programme aligns to The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) ‘Professional Standards Framework’ in the areas of food safety, environmental protection, health and safety at work, housing, and public health and will enable graduates to progress to the CIEH Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner Programme.
Usually applicants would be expected to have achieved 80 UCAS points from level 3 qualifications (plus Maths and English at level 2). Sometimes the 80 points are achieved via A levels, but it could also be Btec National, AVCE, or anything else at level 3. Where an applicant does not have the level 3 qualifications, we are allowed to take into account previous experience and other qualifications. In these cases we would normally set the applicant a preliminary essay to test academic readiness, the main thing is to make sure we are not accepting people onto the course where it is too much of a stretch for them.
Royal Greenwich is a leading London Authority based in South London and this post will be within the Pollution and Residential service.
The Royal Borough is made up of a mixture of residential, light industrial, commercial and leisure uses. As a result this post provides an ideal opportunity for a committed and ambitious student to gain experience of working in all fields of Environmental Health.
