Alumni Profile: Catching up with Abbey

19/10/2022

At UCW we believe it’s crucial to recognise and celebrate the outstanding success of our Alumni. Paving the way for the next generation of graduates, our alumni’s journeys and experiences act as inspiration for those who strive to reach the same feats.

Today we are celebrating Abbey!

Abbey graduated with a degree in Business Management and Sustainability in 2015. Since then, she has gone on to have enormous success in her field.

Delivered in partnership with UWE Bristol, the Business Management and Sustainability, BA (Hons) is a 3-year full-time degree programme taught in Weston-super-Mare. Studying this course allows students to gain an understanding of contemporary issues in business including strategies for sustainable business development.

Post-graduation, Abbey secured a position at Bristol Airport before moving to London to become the UK Business Development and Communications Manager for a renowned, world-wide, escorted tour company, Jules Verne

She says “I have been fortunate that the skills learnt at UCW allowed me to continue in my chosen industry. I learnt a lot about international business and ways of communicating within business. This is something I have implemented within my career, allowing me to develop and progress within the industry.”

When asked what challenges she faced during her studies, Abbey told us:

“For me personally, a challenge I found was being diagnosed as dyslexic before starting on my studies with UCW. However, the support and understanding of all the tutors went above and beyond and allowed me to gain access to additional resources to ensure I could continue with my studies.

The staff support was beyond anything I had ever expected. They are kind, friendly and genuinely care about you and your further education.”

Abbey attributes a lot of her success to her time spent at UCW and we are ever so proud of all she has achieved this far in her career!

We rounded off our chat with Abbey by asking what advice she might have for new students starting out in her field.

Abbey had this to say:

“Network! in business it’s the most important thing, you never know when a contact will be able to help you with a new business venture.”

Thank you for an amazing insight into postgraduate life, Abbey!
