Adam is a final year Business Management with Sustainability student. Shortlisted for our Business and Professional Services Student of the Year, Adam has achieved admirable academic success and has gone above and beyond to drive sustainability within the student body.
As a mature student with extensive management experience, Adam sought to refine his skills and break free from supervisory and operational positions. Following a ten-year hiatus from education, Adam chose University Centre Weston to develop his skills in business management. Reflecting on his decision, he notes, “I felt stuck in lower management roles but felt I could be doing more. UCW’s smaller, more interactive classroom environments suited my learning style.”
Adam found the support from lecturers and the library team invaluable in helping him achieve the writing skills necessary for his degree, “The UCW staff have always been very supportive. Whether it is the lecturers with any learning questions I might have had or members of the HEART and library team,” he notes.
Reflecting on his academic success, Adam proudly shares, “Being the first student in my class to achieve a first for my work has been a massive achievement for myself and a great source of pride.”
In addition to academic pursuits, Adam has continued to work part-time, gaining practical experience in roles aligned with his future career goals, and devoted considerable time and effort to extra-curricular activities.
As a leading member of the UCW Sustainability Society, Adam helped organise significant events such as the Youth Summit, which brought together over 200 students to discuss sustainable futures. He has also provided peer support to Year 1 students for the Big Green Week initiatives.
Adam has taken up the position of Student Engagement and Compliance Officer at UCW, where he aims to help students maximise their university experience. Looking ahead, he aspires to explore project management, leveraging the skills and experiences gained during his time at UCW.
Reflecting on his personal and professional growth, Adam remarks, “During my time at UCW, I have made some great friends and have developed my skills in communicating and leading teams that will help me for future management roles.”
For prospective students, Adam offers this advice: “I would highly recommend the University if you enjoy learning in an interactive environment. Utilise everything that the University has to offer you as the more you put into this experience the more that you will get out of it when you finish.”
