University Centre Weston Hair, Make-up and Prosthetics for Production students competed in the most recent Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) competition in Blackpool – and came home with a number of prizes.
The students entered body painting and prosthetics categories and had to come up with their complicated creations in just a few hours at the town’s historic Winter Gardens venue.
Industry judges awarded prizes to a number of UCW students for their wonderful work.
First-year student Rebecca Cameron won in the Full Body Painting category, which had a theme of Under the Ocean, with classmates Claire Cox and Jade Harding coming second and third respectively.
In the Advanced version of the same category, year two student Mari Kerrigan took home the top prize and first-year student Tia Pardy was selected as the runner-up.
Third-year student Kelly Peters completed the students’ successes by achieving second place in the Game of Thrones-themed Advanced Prosthetics category.
Sandy Day, the Programme Coordinator for Hair, Make-up and Prosthetics for Production at UCW, said: “I couldn’t be prouder of the students; they all did fantastically well!
“Many of our students already work alongside their studies so they are used to working to strict deadlines and being under pressure, and we also practise to professional standards in our studios – so I was confident they would do well but didn’t predict them being quite that brilliant.
“A clean sweep of the full body painting awards shows just how amazing these students are and, coupled with Kelly doing so well with her prosthetics, this really is proof of just how industry-aligned and creative this course is.”
The BA (Hons) Hair, Make-up and Prosthetics for Production degree at UCW is delivered in partnership with Bath Spa University.
