UCW Leaders Recognised with Fellowships

31/01/2025

UCW is pleased to announce that four of the UCW Management team have been recognised with fellowships! Sadie Skellon, Andy Alton and Abby Dobson have all been recognised with an HEA Senior Fellowship, while Sandy Day was recognised at the highest level as a Principal Fellow.

At UCW the HEA Fellowship is awarded by Advance HE and aligns with the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF), which underpins professional practice in higher education. HEA Fellowship recognition is based on a detailed application process that demonstrates impact and leadership in teaching and learning. Different levels include Associate Fellow, Fellow, Senior Fellow and Principal Fellow. This recognition is well deserved, as it highlights the dedication to high-quality teaching and leadership in higher education.

Sandy Day, recipient of the Principal Fellowship and Head of HE Quality Advancements and Academic Development spoke about the achievement. “Seeing colleagues achieve this well-deserved recognition is incredibly rewarding, as it highlights their dedication to high-quality teaching and leadership in higher education, it acknowledges their expertise, and commitment to both our students and the drive of our staff to continually evolve and improve their own practice.

“These Fellowships not only celebrate individual achievements but also strengthen our learning community at UCW, reinforcing our commitment to excellence in teaching. On a personal level, being recognised as a Principal Fellow is an honour, and I hope it encourages others to continue reflecting on their practice and pursuing professional development.”

At UCW, we encourage staff to engage in reflective practice and evidence their contributions to student learning, innovation, research and leadership. Sandy leads the HEA Fellowship programme and we have a typical intake of 10 staff per year who enter into the process. Sandy provides mentorship and structured support through our internal CPD framework, she successfully supports colleagues develop their applications and articulate their impact effectively.
