Mindfulness and Genograms Explored in Double Counselling Guest Lectures

09/01/2025

Counselling students across different years were treated to two guest lectures at the same time! These guest speakers provided invaluable insights into mindfulness and systemic family psychotherapy.

Third-year students attended an engaging session with mindfulness expert Miro Cansky in room 116, exploring techniques to promote self-awareness and emotional well-being. The session allowed students to deepen their understanding of mindfulness practices, which are increasingly essential in therapeutic settings.

Meanwhile, second-year students worked with systemic family psychotherapist Paul Kelly in rooms 114/5. Paul guided students through creating and interpreting genograms, a vital tool for mapping family dynamics and understanding complex relationships. The hands-on exercise provided students with practical skills to support their academic and professional development.

These guest speakers form part of the Counselling Careers Excellence Hub. At University Centre Weston our approach goes beyond the traditional classroom setting. Through industry speakers, workshops, employer projects, and more, we equip our learners with the real-world experiences and insights that set them apart in the competitive job market. It’s not just about getting a job; it’s about standing out from the crowd when they embark on their job searches.
