UCW BSc (Hons) Counselling students recently had an enlightening guest lecture delivered by Adrian from the organisation We Are With You. The session offered a deep dive into the complex psychology of addiction and drug use, shedding light on how these challenges intersect with personal experiences and societal factors.
Adrian’s talk explored the critical link between childhood trauma and addiction, helping students understand how early life experiences can shape behaviours and coping mechanisms later in life. This powerful discussion encouraged participants to consider the importance of empathy, awareness, and support when addressing issues related to addiction.
Students were also introduced to We Are With You, a charity dedicated to supporting individuals and families impacted by substance use and mental health challenges. Adrian shared insights into the organisation’s mission, the services it provides, and the vital role it plays in communities.
The session was interactive, with Adrian asking lots of questions to get learners thinking. Students had the opportunity to ask questions, share reflections, and engage in thought-provoking discussions, making it an impactful learning experience.
