Last week film lovers gathered at the Cube Microplex for the incredibly special 10th anniversary of the annual Dirigo Student Film Festival! Dirigo is an International Student Film Festival directed and produced by BA (Hons) Film & Media Arts Production students from University Centre Weston.
This festival aims to inspire and showcase the creativity of student filmmakers worldwide. It is an open festival with no set boundaries; new styles, voices and direction are actively encouraged. This year’s festival was a great success, with the show being sold out!
The night also played host to the Embrace UCW Photography Award. Winner Farid Barari from Tehran, Iran sent a video in which was screened to audiences on the night. Tanya Fairall who is studying photography at Weston College was there to collect her Runner prize for Student Award. You can find out more about Embrace here.
Film & Media Arts Production lecturer Richard Edkins said: “It was great to return to the Cube for this screening and 10th Anniversary, it’s such a great venue, would like to thank all the volunteers that work that for being so welcoming and making it such a success!
“It was also so great to see so many filmmakers in the audience including Alice Slater who won Best Animated film with ‘Horace: Last day of a life’ and travelled down from Cumbria!”
